Electronic Design and Manufacturing

MotionTouch’s electronic engineers are engaged in the ongoing electronic design of devices to be used in the leisure, mobile and industrial environments. The products have a wide number of different uses but often incorporate at least one of the following electronic components:

  • Camera modules
  • GPS modules
  • Touchscreen modules
  • LCD displays
  • LED displays
  • Battery modules
  • Charging modules
  • Bluetooth, USB or Serial connectivity
  • Rugged Dial or button interfaces
  • Radio Communications modules with a range of up to 2 miles (Remote Control Systems)
  • Bespoke firmware to control the device
  • Plastic enclosures
  • IP rated protection against dust and water
  • Shock Protection

Conversion of Analogue controls system and Instruments to Digital Electronic Products

This is an important area. Existing industrial and medical devices need to be converted to digital devices. The electronic design conversion is taking place for a number of reasons:

  • To interface legacy equipment to PC systems for greater flexibility, control and data collection
  • To reduce the production cost in electronic products
  • The addition of extra functionality possible in electronic design
  • The ease of control via firmware delivered as part of the electronic design

The first task is to understand performance of the existing product and then to match that against the new required product design specification. Once this is done we can begin to define the electronic components to be used and eventually the target price to manufacture.

Electronic Remote Control Systems

MotionTouch have experience in developing remote control systems using RF Technology for interfacing with both digital and analogue devices. These systems can work up to a range of 3km and can be applied to a wide variety of industrial and domestic control processes. The systems usually involve a battery powered handheld device and a module which is connected to the device being controlled. The following considerations often apply:

  • Data Bandwidth required
  • Distance and environment for usage
  • Ergonomics of handset
  • Battery requirements for remote module and handset
  • Communications protocols and encryption requirements
  • Interface options
  • Memory Requirements
  • Transmitter/Receiver Requirements
  • Direction of Data Flow
